DK Merino Silk Yak
This Merino Silk Yak blend is one of our absolute favourite yarn bases so we also carry it in a Fingering Weight.
Merino Silk Yak DK is a great choice for warm and cosy garments and accessories. Not only does it have a beautiful soft feel, but the silk adds a delicate sheen and drape and the yak adds warmth and extra softness. This yarn base before dyeing is a natural medium grey colour which is from the Yak wool. It is soft and luscious to work with and to wear. Yak fibre is a very short staple, in fact it is often referred to as Yak Down and is comparable to Cashmere. The Yak in the yarn we buy comes from Tibet and Mongolia where the Yak are free to roam their natural pasture lands which is untouched and rich in natural substances. You can learn more about the Merino Silk Yak story here on our blog.
Knit Merino Silk Yak with a 3.5mm - 4.5mm needle for a garment or if you wanted to create an even more drapey fabric you could use a larger size needle or hook.
DK Weight (8 ply)
60% Merino, 20% Silk, 20% Yak
212m (232yds) for 100g
Recommended needle size: 3.5-4.5mm
Care: We always recommend handwashing for all hand dyed yarns
Even though the Merino in this yarn is a superwash Merino, due to the yak content, although only 20% of the fibre, it is considered a non superwash yarn and therefore should only be gently hand washed.
